As an outcome of the SWOT Analysis, four areas were
identified in which the committee focused its
educational and contributory efforts: health care delivery and the wage index; encouraging local businesses
to purchase goods and services from each other;
promoting lifelong learning experiences; and promoting
neighborhood pride.
A second Summit was held in April to report on efforts
being undertaken in these areas. "The Movement. The
Momentum." featured three panels that discussed:
Our Health Care: A Prescription For The Future; Our
Purchasing Power: Keeping It Here; Our Education:
Embracing Everyone; and Our Neighborhoods: A Source Of
Pride. Special luncheon speaker, Author and Professor
Gar Alperovitz, discussed how local community-based
models of ownership are working in cities and towns
across America.
With more than 350 people in attendance, the 2007 Summit
drew additional community support in the form of
committee volunteers and collaborative efforts with area
organizations, governments and businesses to
accomplish set goals. |
